WHAT IS "LEAGUE AGE"?

The term "League Age" is used by Little League® International to determine the age of your player for the upcoming season.  Click this link for the GLL Spring Season Age Division Chart.
Starting in the 2016 season, Little League® International has amended it's age determination.  Click this link to read more about it on Little League's website.

WHEN DOES THE SPRING (or "Regular") SEASON BEGIN?

Practices usually begin mid-to-late March with games starting as soon as early April.

HOW LONG IS THE SPRING SEASON?

Our regular season usually lasts for about 13-14 weeks beginning mid-late March and ending by mid June.

WHERE ARE GAMES PLAYED?

Home games are played at the Gettysburg Rec. Park, 545 Long Lane, Gettysburg.  Away locations depend on the division.
Our older teams play other area leagues such as Bermudian, Spring Grove, South Middleton, etc.  Typically our away games are under and hour drive (ie: York).

DOES GLL OFFER OTHER SEASONS?

Yes!  We also offer a Fall Ball program.  Registration for fall begins in early summer and practices usually begin mid-to-late August.  Fall games typically begin early September and run through the end of October.

HOW IS REVENUE GENERATED?

In addition to registration fees, GLL requests sponsorships and donations from local businesses and private sources (such as team sponsorships, signs, opening day program ads, etc.)  The GLL Board of Directors also actively sponsors fundraising activities throughout the year (such as vintage baseball parking fundraiser, apparel sales, etc.) These fundraising efforts are ESSENTIAL to the success of the league.

HOW AM I NOTIFIED OF LEAGUE INFORMATION?

General league information is provided on our website ( www.gettysburglittleleague.com ).  Our league Facebook page is also full of information and announcements, along with fun baseball facts, trivia and articles from Little League International.
If anyone ever has any questions, they can contact a Team Manager, Board Member or email us at [email protected].

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MANAGER AND AN ASSISTANT COACH?

The Manager of a team is ultimately responsible for the team.  He/She will draft the players, name the Assistant Coaches, organize practices, manage lineups, be the main coach for the team, and is ultimately responsible for the behavior of the team's players and coaches.  He/she is also the primary contact between the league and the team/parents.

An Assistant Coach typically helps coach the team and performs any duties assigned by the Manager.  All Managers and Coaches can receive training from our league.

IT IS MANDATORY THAT ALL COACHING MEMBERS COMPLETE AND SUBMIT A VOLUNTEER APPLICATION including your Social Security number, and all current PA State Background Checks that you have had done, which are kept strictly confidential.  For the safety of our children, this will allow us to conduct Little League mandated background checks.  You cannot manage or coach without this submission.

I'D LIKE TO HELP THE LEAGUE BY MANAGING A TEAM, BUT I'M NOT SURE IF I HAVE THE SKILLS.  HOW CAN THE LEAGUE HELP ME MANAGE A TEAM?

First of all, managing a team is probably easier than you think.  We will be having a coaching clinic that will help you teach skills.  Additionally, if you'd like, we can connect you with experienced managers / coaches who can help you get started.  Please don't let the fear of the unknown persuade you not to coach or manage.  Little League is as much about having fun and teaching life skills as it is about teaching baseball, and all of your skills and experiences are valuable.

If you're worried about your schedule, most all coaches and managers sometimes miss a couple of games and/or practices.  Each team usually has 2-3 coaches, so if one is missing on occasion, it shouldn't be a problem.  Obviously, we'd like our managers and coaches there for most of the games and practices and they need to be reliable.  But again, please don't let the fact that you'll miss a couple of games dissuade you from managing a team.

I WOULD LIKE TO MANAGE A TEAM.  HOW DO I SIGN UP?

The Gettysburg Little League President appoints Managers.  Please contact our league ASAP if you would like to manage a team.  We do not appoint Assistant Coaches.  You may connect with a coach ahead of time or request coaching help from your team after it's been drafted.  All Coaching members are required to complete and submit a VOLUNTEER APPLICATION, including your Social Security number, and all current PA State Background Checks that you have had done.  These applications are kept strictly confidential.  You may email it back to our background check coordinator at [email protected].  This Volunteer Application will allow us to conduct the Little League mandated background checks for the safety of our children.  You cannot manage or coach without this submission.

I WOULD LIKE TO BE AN ASSISTANT COACH.  HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Assistant Coaches are appointed by the Team Manager.  You may either connect with a Manager or wait until your child is assigned to a team and offer your services as a coach. You cannot manage or coach without these submissions.

I WOULD LIKE TO BE AN UMPIRE.  HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Please contact an Umpire in Chief as soon as possible with your interest.  Click this link to go to our Umpires webpage for more details.  Umpires are required to complete and submit a Volunteer Application, including your Social Security number, and all current PA State Background Checks that you have had done.  These applications are kept strictly confidential.  You may email it back to our background check coordinator at [email protected].  This Volunteer Application will allow us to conduct the Little League mandated background checks for the safety of our children.  You cannot umpire without this submission.
