DEAR PROSPECTIVE MANAGERS & COACHES -

We first want to THANK YOU for stepping up to teach these young players the game, sportsmanship and teamwork!

Some of you are new with us and some are veterans of GLL. Either way, we want you to be aware of our process.

Team Managers can’t be appointed by the President until we know how many teams we will have. It’s only then that we’ll know how many managers we’ll need.

Assistant Coaches are appointed by the Team Manager. If you would like to be a Coach, please contact your Team Manager asap.

What is the difference between a Manager and a Coach?
As listed on our FAQ's page, the Manager of a team is ultimately responsible for the team. He/She will draft the players, organize practices, manage lineups, organize team volunteers, coach the team, is ultimately responsible for the behavior of the team's players and coaches and is the primary contact between the league and the team/parents.
A Coach typically helps coach the team and performs any duties assigned by the Manager. All Managers and Coaches can receive training from our league.

** You cannot manage or coach until GLL receives all the necessary background checks.**

We know some of you may be itching to get started. So here are some things to do / suggestions to consider:

   -- *REQUIRED FOR ALL COACHING STAFF* Make sure you've completed & returned all of your PA State clearances ASAP. More details on these can be found on our Volunteering & Clearances page. Please turn them all in together to the Board Secretary at our League Board meetings either via email to [email protected] or mail them to: GLL, PO Box 3096, Gettysburg, PA 17325. These remain strictly confidential. A JDP Clearance will be emailed to you for completion and is required by Little League of America for all volunteers.

   -- As soon as we know the date of the early spring Coaches Clinic(s), it'll be posted in the Coaches section on our website and on our league Facebook. Every Manager and Coach needs to attend a District 14 sponsored Coaches Clinic at least once every other year (normally they are late Feb./early March). The annual Coaches Clinic is free to volunteers, paid for by our league.

   -- We have monthly Board meetings, it is suggested that appointed managers, and coaches attend these especially as we get closer to season's start.

   -- Little League International’s Coaches Resource Center is a great online resource for tips and info. (Check out our Coaching Resources page for more links.)

   -- Feel free to talk to past GLL Managers and Coaches.

   -- Each Manager/Team will receive one current LL rule book each year that's provided to us by Little League International. GLL does not require any Manager or Coach to buy one for themselves, but to get one for yourself you can purchase it through the Little League Store.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We want ALL of our volunteers, as well as our players, to have a positive baseball experience with Gettysburg Little League.

Also, if you have a child in our program, state if you would like to manage your child's team.
